“Banjica” Park in Sokobanja, an important spa tourism destination in Serbia, became the fourth IIPT Peace Park in Serbia. It was officially announced on December 4, 2025. The park is located in the wider center of Sokobanja on the banks of the Moravica River. Within the park there is also an outdoor gym, as well as jogging tracks as well as a bath “Banjica” with thermal mineral water.
During the opening ceremony, appropriate speeches were given by: Dr. Miodrag Nikolić, President of the Municipality of Sokobanja, Dr. Olgica Miljković, Head of the Department for Development of Tourist Offer of the National Tourism Organization of Serbia, Ljubinko Milenković, Director of the Tourism Organization of Sokobanja and Dr. Jovan Popesku, President of the Institute for Peace Through Tourism (IIPT Serbia),
The ceremony was also completed by: the choir of the Elementary School “Mitropolit Mihailo”, Teodora Savić, a student of the high school “Branislav Nušić” with a recitation, as well as the actor Miloš Paović in the role of Branislav Nušić, a famous Serbian writer, a regular guest of Sokobanje at the end of the 19th and during the first four decades of the 20th century.
A peace tree – a hornbeam was also planted as part of the ceremony.
We expect that the existing IIPT Peace Parks in Serbia will soon be joined by the parks in Kragujevac and Knjaževac.
